MEET THE ARTIST
Skylar Rains (b. 1998, New Orleans, LA) lives and works in Atlanta. She is an interdisciplinary artist and fabricator. She graduated from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 2017 and received her BFA in Sculpture from the Savannah College of Art and Design (Atlanta, GA) in 2021.
Rains maintains an ongoing studio practice centered around The Specimen Series: A Dissection of Mind, Body, and Soul. This body of work is made up of sculptural relief pieces developed through repeated patterns, color, and fragmentation with naming conventions that number and catalogue each specimen study. Each work stands alone while contributing to a developing archive of visual abstraction.
Her work has been selected for feature in an upcoming digital billboard presentation with Visual Art Journal in Times Square, (Manhattan, NY, 2026). She has been interviewed in Visual Art Journal, Volume 25 (2025), and has exhibited nationally, including MINI’S, RAM Gallery (Summit, NJ, 2025); A Night of Anonymous Art, Summit Public Art (Summit, NJ, 2025); Hard to Swallow, presented by Brittany Coburn and Bring Change to Mind at B-Complex (Atlanta, GA, 2023); HYBRID at SCAD’s Sculpture Studio (Atlanta, GA, 2021); de:FINEART at SCAD’s Sculpture Studio (Atlanta, GA, 2020); and The Amazing Castle at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta (2018).
Along side her studio practice, Rains works in custom fabrication and sculpture, where she has spent the past several years designing, building, and installing work at a wide range of scales. Her background includes hands-on experience with CNC machining, mold-making, metal and wood fabrication, public art, and large-scale installation, and her practice often moves between digital design and physical fabrication.
Rains currently works as an Assistant Fabricator and Assistant Sculptor in Atlanta, GA and as a Gallery Director in Dunwoody, GA. Her fabrication experience includes sculpting and installation for a Chick-fil-A event (San Diego, CA, Rec Dept, 2026); assisting in the sculpting of a life-sized mascot for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs (Rec Dept, 2025); 3D design, CNC operation, fabrication, and installation for Pisces ATL (Edgewood, Atlanta, GA, Arc Design and Fabrication, 2024); sculpting, engineering, fabrication, and installation of Sensory Site by Marie Munk (Goat Farm, Atlanta, GA, Arc Design and Fabrication, 2025); fabrication, integrated LED installation, painting, and installation for A/V Radio, the world’s first off-the-grid radio station (Atlanta BeltLine, GA, Arc Design and Fabrication, 2022); and design, fabrication, and installation of the Breakthrough Energy HERO Sculpture in partnership with Bill Gates (Seattle, WA, Arc Design and Fabrication, Dash Studio, and Project Art Collective, 2022).
